The collection comprises letters concerning capital punishment from several people including an A.L.S. from Warden Lawes of Sing Sing Prison and a H.L.S. from Theodore Dreiser. Also included is material about the second Navy ROTC Orientation Course (Pensacola, Fla., 1948) including pictures, informational materials and maps. A personal correspondence file (1937-1971), and a file of correspondence dealing with the University's Self Survey Report, with a few other University related items, is included in this collection together with Malcolm Willey's articles, speeches and manuals written during his (post-retirement) appointment as head of a Ford Foundation team to reorganize the administrative structure of the University of Calcutta. An additional collection concerns the Willey Residence at 255 Bedford Street in Minneapolis, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The collection includes extensive correspondence regarding plans and problems, as well as personal exchanges. Included is a manuscript and notes for a talk by Wright, and several Taliesin publications.

Malcolm M. Willey came to the University of Minnesota in 1927 as an instructor in sociology. He became a full professor in 1929, Dean and Assistant to the President in 1934, and Vice President of Academic Administration in 1943, retiring in 1963.
